Emergency backup

Stored potable water to ride out municipal outages — no treatment, just tanks filled from the mains and drawn down when supply fails.

Non-potable reuse

Treated wastewater for irrigation, toilet flushing, car washing and landscaping. Lower treatment standard, lower cost — and irrigation alone can account for 30–40% of estate water use.

Potable reuse

Wastewater treated to drinking-water standard — safe for showers, kitchen taps and cooking. Higher cost and stricter regulation, but displaces the most municipal supply.
